Events Two of Clyde's largest attractions every year are the two community festivals that are held in the summer. The Clyde-on-the-Erie Days is the first major gathering of the community during the summer and it celebrates the history and heritage of the village of Clyde through a number of different fun filled family events. Started in the summer of 1996 next years (2002) gathering will be the seventh annual Clyde-on-the-Erie Days. On the second week in July, come visit, enjoy a canal boat ride, and share in the adventure of living on the Erie canal. The second festival of the summer, the annual Firemen's Festival, is known throughout the upstate New York area for its spectacular fireworks display. Sponsored by the Clyde Fire Department, this festival offers everything from gambling, to games and contests for the kids, to one of New York's most breathtaking annual fireworks displays is always held on the 15th of August at 9:00 PM. Once you've seen it you will never miss this weekend in August again. The winter months in Clyde are just as eventful. This year a winter festival is being planned to kick off the Christmas season. Students and other community members will come together to decorate the downtown, and park. Come help us "Light up our village!" |

System Clyde-Savannah Central School District strives for excellence in all areas of education. The school system has three attractive, recently renovated schools that service the needs of its students. Clyde Elementary (a K-4 building) is located in the village of Clyde. The Savannah Elementary School (grades 5 and 6) is located in the hamlet of Savannah. The Clyde-Savannah Junior-Senior High School is located on the Clyde campus. The total student enrollment in Clyde-Savannah Central School District is 1,200. The low student-to-teacher ratio within each of the schools shows the emphasis placed upon learning in this community. The school district has some outstanding academic and athletic programs available for its students. Along with the school's high graduation rate and high state wide test scores, the school system is among the leaders in public education in the state of New York. The schools have an excellent program called "OPTIONS" for academically talented students. This "OPTIONS" program has received state-wide recognition. The school district also has an excellent program for students with special learning needs. |
| The Clyde-Savannah Central School District is well known for the state-of-the-art computer program that it has developed for students in all grade levels. The addition of an electronic portfolio system has made Clyde-Savannah a leader in rural education in New York State. The district participants in a LakeNet program that is giving all of its students Internet access. Clyde-Savannah Central School District has taken great measures to empower all of its students in decision-making. The schools are well-known for involving students in decision-making committees with community members and educators. Recently Clyde-Savannah Central Schools developed a peer mediation program in the Junior-Senior High School. This program, is designed to teach students how to settle disputes through positive mediation efforts, and is another model program that causes other schools to look to Clyde-Savannah for leadership. | ![]() |
| Clyde Savannah Central School District is also developing a model drug and alcohol abuse prevention program. The school has some very strict standards and expectations for its student body. There is a great emphasis in the schools on student wellness and mature student decision making in both academic and social areas. The Clyde-Savannah Community has shown a lot of positive support for its school system. The innovative programs that the school has developed, coupled with the community support, helps Clyde-Savannah Central Schools provide a quality education for all students. |

Activities Clyde and the surrounding Wayne County area is also great for many different kinds of recreational activities, from hunting and fishing to golf and snowmobiling. The banks of the Erie Canal are fantastic for hunting in the Fall and Winter and amazing for fishing in the Spring and Summer months. The year 2001 marked the dedication of our new boat docking facilities. A 60 foot dock has been installed to give both tourists and visitors easy access to our Village. Shopping and dining facilities are now within walking distance of our new canal dock and park. Clyde also has one of the worlds greatest natural preserves in its backyard, the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge. This refuge is home to many endangered species, including a number of our national bird, the bald eagle. Also, just to the west of the village is the 66 square mile Galen Wildlife Preserve. Connecting the two preserves, is the New York State Regional Trailway which will run along the banks of the Erie Canal and through the village of Clyde. It's development and use by snowmobilers, joggers, and hikers will be an added boost to recreation and tourism in the region. Maybe you are looking for something more like golf or baseball. Wayne Hills Country Club, minutes west of the village, offers you the chance to play on a championship course that is home to three New York State Amateur Tournaments and was given a four star rating from Golf Digest. Also professional baseball is only a short drive away. Services If you are looking to join a service group, the Village of Clyde is an extremely active community with an array of services organizations to choose from. A number of strong community organizations, such as the American Legion, the Lions Club, the Rotary, and the VFW are looking for new members, and most religious denominations are represented in Clyde. Another important advantage to residing in Clyde is the village's excellent emergency services. For years Clyde has prided itself on its skilled and highly responsive members of both the police and fire departments. Recent expansion to the fire department, which included the building of a new station, evidences Clyde's dedication to its citizens safety. |
